Weight Loss Procedures & Surgeries

Weight Loss Procedures & Surgeries

Therapy For Weight Loss Procedures & Surgeries
There are now a myriad of weight loss procedures and surgeries that are being performed, and south Louisiana has our fair share.  Our lack of activity, party culture, rich foods and fast-paced high-stress lives do not help those who are struggling with weight issues.  And culturally, we often join at the dinner table to celebrate family or friends and connect.  It’s just part of who we are.  Mixing emotional issues with a people that often celebrate with food can make maintaining a healthy lifestyle difficult.

I offer counseling for both pre- and post-operative patients.  I feel that most these procedures and surgeries have the potential of giving people their lives back – physically, emotionally, sexually, and socially.  It is essential to understand what factors led to a weight so significant that weight loss surgery was needed.  One thing is for certain: being obese is a very painful place to be in for most.  After a procedure, no one wants to return to that place after having taken the steps to reclaim their life.

Remember that weight loss surgery is a tool.  Your stomach is altered but your mind is not, and it is the most powerful thing that can work for or against you.  Counseling can help you learn the coping skills needed to prepare for and maintain your weight loss.  If you are pre-op, then it is the perfect time for you begin counseling.  If you are post-op and struggling with weight regain, it is not too late for you to seek counseling and get back on track.

"If only our eyes saw souls instead of bodies, how different our ideals of beauty would be."

- Lauren Jauregui
